He was first made duke of Touraine (1360) and then duke of Burgundy. Philip II,'The Bold,' was the Duke of the Burgundian Realm from 1363-1404 and the count-spousal of the County of Flanders.

He secured peaceful possession of Poitou, Auvergne, and Toulouse by a small cession (1279) to England. The Tomb of Philip the Bold is a funerary monument commissioned by the Duke of Burgundy Philip the Bold (d. 1404) for his burial at Chartreuse de Champmol.
When he died in 1406, the continuance of his work was assured by the employment of his nephew and heir, Claus de Werve, until his death in 1439. By the age of 21 Philip was known as Le Hardi (‘the Bold’) for his bravery at the age of 14 in battle at Poitiers in 1356, where he was wounded and he and his father were captured by the English under the Black Prince.
